Medford, MA – U.S. Senate candidate Rep. Ed Markey (D-Malden) today asked Congressman Stephen Lynch to immediately begin debate negotiations, while reiterating his previous position that any candidate who qualifies for the April 30 Democratic primary ballot be included in the ultimate agreement.
“I very much look forward to debating the big issues facing our state and our country,” said Markey. “Debates are an integral part of our democratic process, which is why it is important to make sure each candidate has a chance to participate.”
Markey for Senate Campaign Manager Sarah Benzing, in a letter sent today to Jay Cincotti, the head of the Lynch campaign, stressed that serious negotiations should be the next step in the process.
“Rather than continuing discussions through the media, we should sit down and hammer out a real deal,” said Benzing. “We look forward to doing that right away.”
Benzing said if other candidates join the race, further negotiations might be necessary to accommodate all concerns. The deadline for candidates to gather the 10,000 signatures required for the ballot is February 27, 2013.
