Charlestown, Massachusetts – Today, Rep. Ed Markey released the following statement on the third anniversary of the Affordable Care Act:
“Voting for the Affordable Care Act was the most important vote I’ve taken in Congress. Three years after passing this historic reform, nearly 60,000 Massachusetts seniors are saving hundreds on their prescription medications and 21,000 young people throughout the Commonwealth are receiving insurance through family coverage.
“I was proud to stand with President Obama to ban insurance companies from discriminating against patients with pre-existing conditions, ensure women receive free preventative services such as mammograms and cancer screenings, and stop the millions of bankruptcies that result from unpaid medical bills for the uninsured.
“As we celebrate the anniversary of the Affordable Care Act, I recommit to fully implementing these reforms and ensuring all Americans have access to quality, affordable health care. Health care is a right, not a privilege, and we must ensure that right for future generations.”
