Charlestown, Massachusetts – Following the declaration that Ed Markey won the Democratic special election primary for the open U.S. Senate seat in Massachusetts, Rep. Markey thanked and applauded his friend, colleague and challenger in the race, Rep. Stephen F. Lynch of South Boston:

“I want to congratulate my colleague and friend Steve Lynch. Many people went to the polls today saying ‘I am Stephen Lynch.’ If all of us were a little bit more like Steve Lynch, this state and this country would be a better place.

“Steve ran a tough, energetic campaign that gave voice to the concerns of working people across Massachusetts, and his entire team deserves a great deal of credit. I look forward working with him as we continue to build a stronger, fairer, and more secure Massachusetts.”

Ed Markey and Stephen Lynch both took the People’s Pledge to keep secret, outside money from flooding Massachusetts, and ran campaigns focused on the issues Massachusetts families care about most.
