State House News Service: Steve Grossman endorses Markey for reelection
Steve Grossman, the former chairman of the Democratic National Committee and state treasurer for four years, endorsed Sen. Ed Markey’s re-election campaign on Thursday, siding with the incumbent in a four-way primary that includes U.S. Rep. Joseph Kennedy.
Grossman, whose daughter-in-law Becky Grossman is seeking Kennedy’s seat in Congress, praised Markey’s knowledge of the state and his support for small businesses.
The campaign highlighted Markey’s sponsorship of legislation to expand the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program, which provides funding to infant industry research and development when private capital is unavailable.
“Ed Markey knows that today’s economy isn’t just about startups and the new economy,” Grossman said in a quote release by the Markey campaign. “He knows that in older cities and gateway communities, people are struggling. He knows that small businesses create the most jobs, and that helping those small businesses is one of the most powerful things we can do to create a better future for all Massachusetts families.”
After leaving the Treasury to run for governor in 2014, Grossman became the CEO of the Initiative for a Competitive Inner City. – Matt Murphy/SHNS
