Springfield Republican: Ed Markey’s campaign hires Cristina Aguilera, former campaign manager for Rep. Nika Elugardo
Cristina Aguilera, the former campaign director for State Rep. Nika Elugardo, D-Boston, has joined Democrat U.S. Sen. Edward Markey’s campaign as statewide organizing director.
Aguilera became known in the political world after helping Elugardo defeat House Ways and Means Chairman Jeffrey Sanchez in a major upset. One of the politicians who endorsed Sanchez was U.S. Rep. Joe Kennedy, a Democrat now challenging Markey.
Markey is developing his campaign team, facing a tough primary challenge from Kennedy and two other challengers, labor lawyer Shannon Liss-Riordan and businessman Steve Pemberton.
A native of Venezuela, Aguilera was previously director of organizing for the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition and has also worked for various labor unions.
In a statement, Aguilera called Markey “a progressive leader and strong voice for immigrants and refugees.”
