Education

The first in his family to go to college, Ed knows our education system is what makes our country strong. That’s why he has fought in Congress to give our children the best education possible.

Ed believes we should reward schools, administrators and teachers who develop innovative and effective teaching methods. That’s why he supports President Obama’s “Race to the Top” program, which provides educators the tools they need to write innovative lesson plans that improve the learning experience for students.

In 2010, Ed helped to secure $250 million in federal funding for Massachusetts to increase accountability in the classroom, prepare students for college and help attract the best and brightest teachers to the Commonwealth.

In 1996, Ed authored legislation creating the E-rate program to ensure that every child, regardless of economic circumstance, has access to the Internet. Since then, the program has distributed $30 billion in funding to help close the digital divide and support our children’s learning.

In the Senate, Ed will continue to build a strong foundation for our education system.
