  • MassEquality Endorses Ed Markey

    Today, Rep. Ed Markey (D-Malden) received an endorsement for his commitment to LGBTQ issues from the leading statewide grassroots organization, MassEquality. The group represents residents from across the state on a wide variety of issues that ensure the LGBTQ community continues to receive important protections. Time and again, Ed has stood up for equal treatment for those in same-sex partnerships. He co-sponsored legislation that would change the tax code to allow domestic partners to qualify for employer-provided insurance. And Ed supported a bill that would provide spousal health care, retirement and other benefits to all federal civilian employees with qualifying same-sex domestic partners. Ed also co-sponsored legislation to unite American families by providing same-sex partners of U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents the same immigration benefits as different-sex spouses currently enjoy.   • Markey Campaign Kicks Off State-of-the-Art Canvass Effort with More Than 100 Events Statewide

    Medford, MA – Today, Rep. Ed Markey (D-Malden) took to the streets and launched his campaign’s canvassing effort in Brookline and Milton with dozens activists and elected officials. Ed knocked on doors and asked for support to bring his fight for Massachusetts families to the U.S. Senate. Attorney General Martha Coakley joined supporters in Somerville, while Medford Mayor Mike McGlynn spoke with activists in his hometown. Ed joined State Senator Brian Joyce in Milton and spoke about going to the Senate to pass climate change and gun control legislation, and to ensure the rights of women and the LGBT community. By the end of the weekend, more than 700 Markey for Senate canvassers will hold more than 100 events and knock on thousands of doors throughout the Commonwealth. More »

  • Markey Builds Statewide Grassroots Campaign, Collects More Than 52,000 Signatures to Qualify for Senate Ballot

    Medford, MA – Today, in a display of the breadth and strength of his statewide grassroots campaign, Rep. Ed Markey (D-Malden) announced volunteers had collected 52,307 signatures to put his name on the ballot for U.S. Senate, more than any other candidate in the race. Ed was joined on the steps of the Massachusetts State House by supporters from throughout the state, where he thanked the 2,850 volunteers who held 1,123 events over the past 25 days to collect signatures required to put his name on the ballot. Ed, joined by volunteers from Pittsfield, Springfield, Cambridge and Lowell, among others, then marched the tens of thousands of certified signatures to the office of the Secretary of State. Supporters walked with signs listing the number of signatures each city collected and issues such as gun control, equal rights, climate change and job creation as reasons for their support for Ed’s campaign.
